Goodbye St. Paul – or was it Minneapolis?

We set off in the late afternoon of Sunday 30th August on the first leg of the journey to Winnipeg. The morning was spent doing household chores (i.e. laundry, packing it away and clearing trash from the car) followed by a brief trip to a local park for the Minnesota Triumphs Celebration Picnic.
In the picture below, we see those who had arrived ‘on time’ and were already getting into eating mode – though many more arrived later and a large semi-circle of about 40 people finally convened.
Very many thanks to Phyllis (3rd from left in picture) for ‘moving and shaking’ everyone to attend. It really was great to meet all of you – and to see so many different makes of car turning up to take part. It seems that Citroen is very much a popular make in the Twin Cities, as apart from Andy Lindberg’s 2CV6 (already mentioned) two further truly immaculate ‘Tractions Avant’ turned up and adopted a commanding view of the procedings from a nearby parking lot! Like all good things, the picnic was over far too soon and it was time to say our Goodbyes and return to the road.
After sojourning briefly at Phil and Susie Ethier’s home to remove things from one car and pack luggage in another, we travelled about 140 miles in a vaguely northerly direction where we struck camp for the night at Alexandria. A party from Fargo is expected at an uncivilised hour in the morning and they will stick with us to get “uj” and me to the Canadian border, where another team will be waiting in the Canadian Welcome Centre when we get to the other side.
Thank you again to EVERYONE in the Twin Cities for what you laid on yesterday at The Square Peg in Hennepin Square – and today in the Park. You, like all the other locations visited on this marathon drive, have responded magnificently to the clarion call – and as I said to you in my address after lunch, the Team Effort demonstrated by everyone to date since we started on 27th June – now so long ago – has been truly outstanding and very, very touching. This event is getting more and more media attention as we slowly make our way along the route – and current indications look as though “uj” and I are due to make a guest appearance on a popular radio show when we finally reach Vancouver.
When (if?) that actually happens, it will not be because of personal notoriety – but sheer damned hard work and commitment by hundreds of people in support of a noble cause.
And those people are you. All of you across Canada and the United States, those we have already met – and those we are yet to meet. You’ve done brilliantly – and thank you so much – for everything you have done in support of TTACD.
