Calgary Capers

In truth, there hasn’t been a lot of capering around at all! In fact, there’s been quite a lot of sleeping over the last 24 hours or so, the buying of a few essentials from Messrs Walmart – and not much else.
Liz arrived nearly 45 minutes early from New York on Saturday, so there’s been lots of talking and catching up on news from home – and about the event itself.
But today, Sunday, was different.
At 11.0am, a contingent of members from Vintage Sports Car Club of Calgary arrived at our hotel to form an escort via a scenic route around the city and to end up at the Heritage Exhibition, where we all partook of an excellent three course lunch.

We had a very cosmopolitan spread of cars including a delightful Bentley (an S2?), a Porsche, a Morgan and the usual fussing covey of Spitfires and TR’s. Delightful to see them all guys – and thank you for turning it out to make it such a memorable and enjoyable day.
I really must recommend you visit the Heritage Museum. The display we saw is/was part of a private collection and is superbly set-off by a mind-boggling display of period fuel pumps – all illuminated, and a delight to the eye. In the pic below, we see one of the main display halls with a veritable plethora of old (restored) neon signs and non-illuminated hanging from the roof underside.
But the whole of the site is a “must visit” for anyone interested in the general evolution of things – and of course, it’s very child-friendly. Go there the next time you’re passing through Calgary.
Liz and I leave tomorrow morning (Mon) and are planning on making our way up through the Banff and Jasper Parks, to cross The Rockies and arrive in Vancouver by this coming Thursday night.
