The Clubs pull out ALL the stops for TTACD – AGAIN!!!
By John | September 12, 2009
A fabulous day of sunshine, a fabulous display of cars – and especially as Vancouver offered no less than THREE different classic car shows and all on the same day! Congratulations and very sincere thanks to everyone at British Columbia Triumph Registry - especially Allan Reich – for such a splendid response.
The BCTR Show ‘n Shine under the banner of “The Brits are Coming” saw a total turnout of exactly 50 delightful examples of many different makes and models. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!
It was an incredible turnout by everyone involved – and thank you Trev Deeley motorcycles for the loan of your parking area.
Everything drew to a close around 3.0pm and it was time to go home. Liz and I were returning to our hotel in “uncle jack” and in the middle of a busy intersection, ‘himself’ decides to throw another of his little wobblies. We’ve had them before, haven’t we dear? Emptying your fuel filter at the most inconvenient time – and this looked the same.
Only it wasn’t.
Fuel pump was as dead as the proverbial Dodo. Hmm, another piece of American product that can’t stand the pace of what Lucas throws at it! The last time it was an American battery that failed.
Anyway, as we were no more than 100 yards from the event location, word soon got back that there “was trouble a’t mill” and before you could say Prince of Darkness, about 12 people arrived, fell out of their cars with enough tools to keep Snap-On in business for the next decade – and the diagnostic chappies set to work with test lamps to check electrical feeds. Meanwhile, up front, another was blowing down the fuel pipe back to the tank to check for blockages (none) and (I think) got a blown back mouthful of 93 octane for his trouble!
Someone waved a magic wand and before Prince Charming could say “this glass boot fits Cinderella’s left foot” – another pump was emerging from its box with fairy-like sparklies. Unions were screwed on, pipes connected, ignition on proved plenty of fuel was surging through the new filter – and “uj” roared into life.
Yes, inconvenient it happened on an intersection – but heavens above, we’ve just emerged from the remoteness of The Rockies and before that, it was 1000 miles of prairie!
But PLEASE everyone – from now onwards, don’t ask me how the car has performed to date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think my answers are tempting providence – and we’re so close to the end of the Drive
Below is an image of the “Rescue Team” who were delayed on their way for a Fish and Chips lunch. Sorry guys – but thanks a million!
The white cross-hatching on the road in the background of the above pic is where “uj” did it!

What’s happened? Did John forget to “Turn Left At the Pacific?” It’s been days since we’ve heard an update from him.
