“uncle jack” has DONE IT!!!

I always knew he would – two blocked fuel filters and a duff fuel pump notwithstanding!!
Yesterday afternoon (and only one hour late) with Sir Edward Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance” March No. 4 blasting from all his loudspeakers, “uj” arrived in style at the Embassy Suites, San Luis Obispo.
Bless him, he’d done the Triumph Trans AmeriCan Charity Drive 2009. He now shares a favoured display place by the hotel main entrance, sporting all his decals and attracting a lot of attention.
Yesterday’s journey from Pacific Grove was also an event with style. Eighteen Triumphs congregated at a convenient Mall car park near Pacific Grove and then set off along Highway 1, with the most enchanting views of the Pacific Ocean – and along a winding road that is ideal for a British sports or touring car. There were a number of pauses for photo-ops of all the cars, culminating in a delightful stop-over where Elephant Seals were sunning themselves on a nearby beach.
On to Cambria for lunch and then returning to the road where, some 15 miles outside San Luis Obispo, a further ten Triumphs awaited the caravan for the final approach to the FINISH line. Headed by three very ‘elderly ladies’ who were not to be hurried:

Paul and Jane Higley in another Gloria, and
David and Jane Pilcher in their Roadster 2000
we made our stately and regal progress into SLO. At the last minute, Duncan, Paul and David pulled over and “uj” took the lead, winding up in a massive car park – full of Triumphs and much applause from waiting on-lookers.
A wonderful end to a truly wonderful and memorable marathon drive that was marred by two significant absences. Those absences were in the form of Joe and Kathy Pawlak – without whose phenomenal commitment and support, “uj” would never have been completed on time and to such an exceptional standard. They arrive here today – and not a day too soon!
But this is not the end. This website will continue to be updated as events at Triumphest / VTR NATC and later developments dictate. Keep coming back to check, sign up for updates – and thank you to EVERYONE who has taken part. I just hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
I’m taking a few days off from driving for the time being as “uncle jack” and I both need a bit of a rest

Congratulations, John and ‘Uncle Jack’, for the completion of this historic marathon drive across North America.
The drive is complete but the adventure continues, enjoy the next phase of this big adventure.
It was a pleasure to meet you, Liz, and ‘UJ” and drive a few miles with you.
