    MEMORABILIA & REGALIA

tee-shirts-clipart.jpgEarlier this year, enthusiast Carl Musson put in a lot of hard work creating a hot-linked website for memorabilia and regalia off this site. Perhaps you saw it and were as impressed with the range of Polo shirts, Tee shirts, caps and visors – and the prices (!) as we were.

Unfortunately, the supplier went out of business in May 2009 and at the moment, we don’t have any clothing/promotional memorabilia to offer. While it’s rather late in the day to source another supplier, haggle the prices and let you know what’s going to be available – we’re trying to do just that!

Bookmark this page and why not click on the “STAY UPDATED” button on the sidebar? Just entering your email address will allow us to tell you IF and WHEN a new memorabilia supplier is located, so you can see what’s available and place your order.

But all is not completely lost – and we hope these other items will interest you.

computer.jpgHere’s a unique Screensaver running in a MS Powerpoint environment. Over the years, John has amassed a considerable collection of conventional and digital photographs of the cars and motorcycles he loves. He’s selected more than 60 of these photographs and put them into a presentation. It’s about 3mB in size but can be sent by email.

The price is US$10. Email John using the button on the sidebar and he’ll tell you how to get your screensaver.

As for the rest? Well, while you can’t wear these alternative offerings, they’re really good for swatting flies, as eyeshades for a quick nap after an excellent lunch, as pads under jack heads – or even using as a wedge to stop rocking tables and chairs with odd-length legs!

Whatever choice you do make, we hope you’ll agree it has a most practical and genuine Standard-Triumph use?

log-book-cover.jpgLet’s face it, no true Standard-Triumph enthusiast would want to be without a replica Vehicle Logbook in their glovebox, as used by the Company in Coventry in the 1950’s.

log-book-inside-pages.jpgIn those days, all journeys in company-owned vehicles, regardless of length, had to be logged – and there were very few exceptions where this rule did not apply.

Copied by John Macartney from an original version used by his Dad, this book contains a statement about the general Terms and Conditions of Use of company-owned vehicles by employees.

In these more liberal times, it is perhaps curious to learn that employees might be allowed to keep their jobs if they had no more than two accidents in a twelve-month rolling period!! There are specific directives on how the car should be driven with regard to other road users, expected standards for interior/exterior cleanliness and fault reporting. There’s also a page on how to work out fuel consumption (remember, not everyone who worked at S-T was an enthusiast – for many, it was just a job)

Each book has at least 20 pages of JOURNEY RECORD (with 15 entries per page) and 20 pages of VEHICLE CHECK RECORD plus 10 additional non-specific pages at the back – for notes or other details to do with the car that were not eligible for the Journey or Vehicle Check sections.

This page count may seem limited – but it should be remembered that cars on the company fleet were usually sold after completing 6000 miles – and Press Cars were sold with even lower mileages. So, if you feel each book has insufficient pages for a car you plan to keep long-term, it might be sensible to order more than one copy.

The Log Book is spiral bound and John will be using the copy illustrated in the Stag throughout the Charity Drive and anyone is welcome to study it.  He will also be bringing an additional sample for your evaluation.

These Log Books will sell for US$25.00 each including P&P, with all profits being split 3 ways to the charities this event is supporting. There will be a one-time only print run in late October / early November 2009 when John returns from the trip and hopefully we’ll be able to ship from the UK before Christmas 2009.

Please note: Absolutely NO extra Log Books will be printed for stock. To secure your copy and get on the waiting list, send an email with STANDARD MOTOR COMPANY CAR LOG BOOK in the subject line to macartney.john@yahoo.co.uk

Your email will then be saved in a separate folder and we’ll contact you later in the year to see if you still want your Log Book. If you do, it’ll then be time to send your payment. If you prefer to wait and see the example John is using on the trip, you can still email him as the address quoted is the one he’ll be using while away from the UK.

turn-left-at-the-pacific.jpgWhen this Charity Drive is over, John plans to publish his daily diary of the trip itself.

It’s likely to have copious quantities of photographs – and anecdotes as only John can tell them!

“Turn LEFT – at the Pacific!” will only become a reality if enough people order it and in sufficient quantities to interest a publisher. In the event that quantities are below publisher requirements (i.e. less than 4000 copies) John may well proceed but send the book as an ‘e-book’ in a .pdf format for you to print at home and have bound yourself on either 8.5″ x 11″ paper, or in European A4 paper size.

If published, the price is likely to be in the region of £12.95 plus P&P. If sent to you as an ‘e-book’ for home printing and binding, it will retail for about £7.50. Payment can be made in Sterling, Canadian or US dollars and those will be confirmed nearer the time of release and dependent on the prevailing rates of exchange.

To secure your copy and get on the waiting list, send an email with “Turn LEFT – at the Pacific!” in the subject line to macartney.john@yahoo.co.uk

Your email will then be saved in a separate folder and we’ll contact you later in the year to see if you still want your copy. If you do, we’ll then be able to advise you on the final format – but please be aware this publication (in any format) will NOT be available in time for Christmas 2009.

itsomf-cover.jpgIf you enjoyed John’s first book, “IN THE SHADOW OF MY FATHER” – claimed by all who have read it to be an enjoyable and irreverent look at life inside Standard-Triumph from the perspectives of John’s Father, Charles Macartney – and John himself, be aware that copies are still available from the third and final total print-run of 3000 copies.

The price is £12.95 plus P&P of £4.00 -totalling £16.95 (US$25.00). To enquire about payment and place your order, email John at macartney.john@yahoo.co.uk writing “IN THE SHADOW OF MY FATHER” in the email subject line. The available copy count is limited, so it’s FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!

front-cover.jpgFinally, a book John wrote in the early 1980’s for the daughter of the key character, is due to be published in the Spring of 2010.

Under the title of “THE CROCUS AND A CORNFLOWER” it is the true story of how the Austrian importer in Vienna for Jaguar and Standard-Triumph cars (Georg Hans Koch) made an incredible escape from his country to England in 1939 – without having made any prior preparations whatsoever!

Koch had a very scant regard for Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party – and wasn’t too worried about expressing his views in places and to people who were not as ‘persuaded’ as Koch himself. Married to a Jewess, Monika – Hans Koch (a christian) was as much due for the gas chambers for his anti-Hitler views as was Monika for her ethnic origin. The fact that both of them survived to be re-united – and against the most incredible odds, is a tribute to their resourcefulness, determination and no small measure of good luck. This is a factual and entirely true story of two people, deeply in love with one another, who survived the Holocaust against daunting odds and extreme danger. Set against the background of Europe on the brink of war, the story identifies many people by name and one in particular, the naive but totally lovable Kitty Hopkins, who found herself in the middle of Hans and Monika Koch’s personal turmoil.

Shortly after the original manuscript was written, a UK TV company approached John Macartney for serialisation rights and broadcast of the book in English, French, German and Italian. With an estimated production cost of £6 million (US$ 9 million approx) the project was later abandoned when two European participants dropped out. But further research has taken place over the years since the original manuscript first appeared and more material has found its way into a totally re-written story that a UK publisher now wishes to release.

To secure your copy and get on the waiting list, send an email with “THE CROCUS AND A CORNFLOWER” in the subject line to macartney.john@yahoo.co.uk

Your email will then be saved in a separate folder and we’ll contact you nearer the actual publication date to advise price and how to place your order with the publisher direct. Currently, the publisher is planning to release the book in the Spring 2010 and no price has yet been indicated.
